This 1.5 million gallon underground prestressed concrete water tank suffered extensive deterioration at the top of the tank walls when the protective earth cover was removed. The thermal movements of the roof slab damaged the walls. FKC investigated the structural behavior of the tank and designed repair details. The top of the tank wall was sawcut and shimmed. The roof slab was lifted up using flat jacks, and a neoprene pad was inserted between the roof slab and the tank wall. Thus, the thermal movements of the roof slab were accommodated so as to minimized future damage to the tank walls.
