The owners of this facility required the installation of a new high speed testing balancing equipment at their Trenton, NJ plant. The proposed location of the new equipment was set at an existing foundation pit of the previously installed milling machine that was located within a sheet pile cofferdam. The pit had been filled with non-structural concrete fill of un-known strength and the depth of concrete was not previously verified. Feld, Kaminetzky & Cohen, P.C. (FKC) investigated the structural integrity and adequacy of the existing concrete foundation pit to support the new four foot thick concrete wall and roof structure (Bunker) that will house the new testing equipment.
FKC designed the new bunker structure. This is a massive concrete structure consisting of four feet thick steel fiber reinforced concrete walls lined with steel plates. The roof cover is a four feet thick movable concrete structure. This structure was designed to resist impact and blast loads. |
