The masonry chimney stack at the North Yonkers Pumping Station was constructed circa 1930's. Over the years the chimney (100’ high) exhibited several signs of deterioration, including cracking and brick spalling. The chimney was eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places and the County of Westchester required the repair and restoration of the chimney. FKC prepared a testing program, including removal and testing of concrete, brick and mortar samples. The chimney was surveyed for plumbness, so that a baseline for long term tilting was established. Vibration monitoring was performed to evaluate the impact of traffic and construction. FKC performed structural analysis and provided an engineering report, including findings and conclusions, preliminary repair sketches and preliminary repair cost estimates. The restoration recommendations emphasized the aesthetics of the existing structure. |
