Extended Bio

Dr. Stivaros professional experience includes structural analysis and design of building systems, failure investigation and reports, distress analysis, condition surveys, and structural evaluation and rehabilitation of buildings and other structures. Structures involved are reinforced concrete and steel buildings, parking garages, environmental structures, bridges, prestressed and post-tensioned concrete structures, building facade investigations, concrete caissons,
concrete tank domes, chimneys, blast and impact testing bunkers,
and other special structures. He has also been involved in several formwork related projects in multistory concrete buildings.

Dr. Stivaros is in charge of the Testing and Monitoring Department
of the firm, and is responsible for developing testing and monitoring programs for distressed structures; testing and monitoring services encompass a wide range of testing methods including foundation settlement monitoring, impact-echo testing of concrete structures, ground penetrating radar testing, infrared thermography, masonry testing, and other destructive and non destructive testing methods.

His experience also includes structural failure investigations.
He has provided forensic engineering services, investigated structural collapses, including concrete and formwork failures. He has provided expert testimony and engineering support for legal proceedings in various construction litigation cases involving structural failures and non-performance.

Dr. Stivaros is an adjunct professor of structural engineering;
and he has authored several engineering publications on the shoring/ reshoring operations during construction, and concrete testing and evaluation. He is a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute, and
a member of the Technical Activities Committee (TAC) of the Institute, TAC Construction Standards Committee, Technical Committee Manual
Task Group, and Construction Paper Award Committe. He is the past chair of ACI Committee 347 on Formwork for Concrete, a member
of Committee 350 on Environmental Engineering Concrete Structures,
and a member of Committee 362 on Parking Structures. He is the principal author of the ACI publication "Guide for Shoring/Reshoring
of Concrete Multistory Buildings." He is currently a member of
the faculty of American Concrete Institute presenting seminars
on Troubleshooting Concrete Forming and Shoring.

Dr. Stivaros is a registered professional engineer in New York State, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Tennessee. He holds a Ph.D. degree (1988) and a Master of Science degree (1984) in Civil Engineering
from West Virginia University, and a Civil Engineering Degree from
HTI, Cyprus (1981).
